Hi, I'm Hassan.

I'm a Computer Science student at Metropolitan State University of Denver with a strong interest in game development, programming, and building things from ideas.

A lot of my time goes into technical projects, but I also really enjoy being outside, exploring beautiful places, taking pictures, swimming, playing sports, and experiencing things away from a computer screen.

Those interests often find their way back into my work, especially when I am thinking about environments, exploration, photography, or the kinds of places I want to create.

From Egypt to Colorado

I was born in Egypt and came to the United States in early 2007. Since then, Colorado has become a major part of my life.

The two places look completely different, but both have given me environments and scenery that I enjoy stopping to appreciate.

What I'm studying

Metropolitan State University of Denver

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Current

My coursework is helping me strengthen my foundation in programming, software development, databases, web technologies, technical communication, version control, and collaborative development.

Outside class, I spend a lot of time applying what I learn to personal projects involving Unreal Engine, simulation, mapping, automation, procedural environments, and desktop applications.

What I enjoy outside of development

Some of the things that keep me busy when I'm not programming or working on a project.

Nature & Photography

I love nature and taking pictures of things I find beautiful. It might be a mountain, a sunset, interesting lighting, water, or something that simply catches my attention.

Photography gives me a reason to slow down and notice details that I might otherwise walk past.

Playing soccer outdoors

Outdoors & Sports

I love being outside in the sun. Swimming, beach volleyball, and soccer are some of my favorite ways to spend time outdoors.

Soccer in particular has been part of my life for a long time through both playing and refereeing. I am not someone who memorizes every player's statistics or follows every detail of professional soccer. I simply enjoy the game, playing it, and being involved in it.

I also spend enough time outside that the tan lines on my arms usually make that pretty obvious.

11,000 feet above sea level

One of my favorite Colorado experiences was a trip to Breckenridge where I rode a snow buggy up to around 11,000 feet in elevation.

After the ride, I stopped near one of the mountain viewpoints and had hot chocolate while looking out over the surrounding landscape.

Experiences like that are a big part of why I enjoy being outside. I like finding places that feel completely different from everyday life and having a reason to stop for a while and take everything in.

Real experiences influence what I build

My interests outside of programming often end up influencing the projects I work on.

My appreciation for Colorado's mountains and natural scenery helped inspire the Colorado wilderness opening of Thunder of Owari.

Photography is another example. Because I already enjoy taking pictures of things I find beautiful in real life, I wanted photography to remain available to the player throughout the game as well.

I like when the projects I build contain pieces of things that genuinely interest me instead of feeling completely separate from who I am.

Still learning, still building

My long-term goal is to build a career where I can combine technical problem solving with creative work.

Game development especially interests me because it brings programming, design, art, environments, storytelling, sound, and player interaction together into one experience.

I want to continue improving with Unreal Engine while also learning tools such as Unity and Blender and gaining a broader understanding of professional game production.

For now, my goal is simple: keep building things, learn from what goes wrong, and make each project better than the last.
